Hi! My name is Makana
Milotta and I’m the new Interim Associate Pastor for Youth and
Young Adults.
I was born on Kauai and moved to the North Shore when I was four.
Living on the south side is going to be a new experience for me. I
graduated from Waialua High and Intermediate in ‘01 and went to
WhitworthCollege in Spokane, WA graduating in ‘05 with a BA
inSpeech Communication. Throughout college I was involvedin doing youth
ministry through Young Life. After completing college, I moved to
Canada and did my Masters of Divinity at Regent College.
I loved school; I think everyone should consider getting a theology
degree. But after living abroad for a long while, I felt God was
calling me home so I am very glad to have the opportunity to do
ministry here in Hawaii.
It was while I was in college that I realized that part of being a
Christian meant that I had a responsibility to future generations to
mentor and help them mature in their faith. I think youth ministry is a
great way to lay the foundation for future growth and maturity.
Teachers sometimes talk about how they hope to make their students
life-long learners. Youth ministry should do something similar in that
it should give youths the ability and desire to mature in their faith,
to become involved in all aspects of the church. Part of what is so
great about youth ministry is that it doesn’t just give the youth
a chance to grow; it also is a great growth opportunity for the rest of
the church as members lead and
minister to their youth. Sometimes it’s the leaders who see the
most growth! More than anything I’m really excited about being
able to share that opportunity with the entire congregation. Youth
ministry at its best involves the whole church.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, dabbling in photography, playing with
dogs and going stand up paddle surfing with my family. I’m always
up for trying something new. I’m looking forward to spending a
season of my life as part of your community and hope that I can make my
own unique contribution to its future.
